FAQs

I’m in an interfaith relationship, are we welcome?

Yes! While, as a Masorti community we can only admit Jewish individuals as voting members, the life of the community goes beyond votes. Non-Jewish partners, family, and friends are welcome to join in everything at SAMS. For our policies on how non-Jews can be involved in the ritual life of the community, click here.

I’m LGBT+, am I welcome?

Yes! SAMS is proud to be welcoming and inclusive of diverse gender-identites and sexual orientations, embracing LGBT+ Jewish people.

Our community performs same-sex Shutafut ceremonies, an egalitarian and gender-neutral alternative to the Kiddushin wedding ceremony.

There is a single-stall accessible and gender-neutral toilet in the building, and we’re happy and able to accommodate diverse identities in religious services, including in offering aliyot in gender-neutral language when requested.

I’m differently-abled and/or neurodivergent, am I welcome?

Yes! We strive to make our space and our services inclusive. We have a lift to access the upper floor and the layout of the building, from the carpark to the Bimah is level surface with accessible-width doorways. We have a wheelchair on site which is usable by visitors and various accommodations including a quiet/sensory room set up on major holidays, large print Siddurim, etc. For any particular questions in advance of visiting, get in touch.
