The SAMS Roots project has been supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to show memories and experiences of a selection of our members, including what brought them to SAMS.

The funding allowed us to employ a professional biographer, our own Caroline Pearce, to interview 12 members of SAMS and allow us to store and display their stories to ensure that they are available for future generations.

On this Roots section of the website you will find:

You can find the full interviews, transcripts and a glossary at the University of Hertfordshire’s Heritage Hub. This virtual display accompanies a display within our building. You will see that the stories provide a rich insight into Jewish life and experience across time and place. The Roots project ensures that these unique memories are preserved in the wider community of St Albans and beyond.

We are delighted that SAMS Roots is included in the Hidden Treasures Jewish archive collection at this link
