Mitzvah Day

Mitzvah Day is an important national and international social action event and SAMS actively participates in it. Each year SAMS runs a number of projects, with something for everyone in the community to get involved in while performing a mitzvah (good deed) and having fun.

In 2019 during the Mitzvah Day 10th Aniversary Awards Ceremony our very own Nick Grant won a special achievement award for his role in ensuring that SAMS is at the forefront of this important and ongoing initiative, watch the video below:

 Our 2018 projects included:

  • SAMS Cheder decorating cakes for women and children at a local women’s refuge
  • A collection for a local foodbank.
  • SAMS Youth sorting food at the local foodbank
  • Knitting hats and scarves for the homeless
  • A Green interfaith project of clearing the local cemetery
  • Cooking an evening meal for the homeless
  • SAMS Tots, young members and SAMS Singers entertaining the elderly at a residential home
  • A collection of glasses for overseas vision aid
  • Co-hosting a family tea for Syrian refugees with Herts Welcomes Syrian Families

Abigail Mann, a SAMS member who also has a home in Hawkshead won the individual award at the 2019 Mitzvah Day Awards for her outstanding work in the village. Watch the video below for details and click here to read the article in the JC.

 

Mitzvah Day at SAMS is an important highlight in our calendar when many community members take time to help others in the wider community around us.
